Cairo Time

Today I took myself off to the cinema to see the film Cairo Time. It's a gentle, sweet story with beautiful scenery of everyday Cairo.

Egypt has always a fascination for me. The desert, the archeology, the people, the history.

Nine years ago my man and I took off on a backpacking trip around the world, before we were married with kids. Egypt was a not included in our original plans as it was an extra flight that was not a part of our ticket deal. My man knew of my love of Egypt and when we arrived in Greece he said "lets buy the tickets, we can't get this close and not go". So we did, although I was apprehensive. I had built up this romantic image in my mind and I didn't want to be disappointed.

I did feel uncomfortable in some places by the stares and attention I received being a western woman, even with my man by my side, but the good far outweighed the bad. I still dream of returning to Egypt, but this time spending longer there and seeing more of northern Africa.

I must try and find the photo's of us on camels that we rode to the pyramids of Giza. They''ll be in a box somewhere in the dark depths of our storage unit.

I love Cairo. Went there (pre child) for a week. So much to see and do. Yes, we'd love to return there too. One day.....
