Vintage Finds - Office

Yesterday we trawled a few garage sales and I found many goodies I liked, but I had Andy with me, who kept me in check. Note: do NOT take him with me next time.

I did manage to bring home this lovely black phone, that apparently works, but I need to find the right connection as we upgraded in the reno. I must say I do like the hands free phones, but I'm constantly loosing it and have to ring it from my mobile to find it. So this baby will sit beautifully on my desk never to move away to far. I'll probably still use my mobile to ring it, just it hear it's sweet ringing purr.

I also found these lovely wood office trays, to add to my vintage office collection.

Sweet old book $1.00. I love the images in it and might use them to create some embroidery.

I found this typewriter in a box that has been in storage and thought it would add to the look.

Going through these old storage boxes, I have come across treasures that I forgot I had, which has been fun rediscovering again.

Country Cookbook Challenge

I don't need anymore cookbooks as I have sooo many already, but today at a garage sale, I bought this cookbook compiled by The Country Women's Association of Australia for $1.00. It looks like it has never been used .

Each recipe has the persons name and town where they are from and some with interesting stories of the history of the recipe. It also has many great pictures.

Looking through it, I thought how wonderful each recipe was and decided to have a crack at giving them all a go, just like in Julie & Julia, however these recipes won't be as challenging as those, but more for the average home cook. I'm not going to give myself a time limit but there are 500.

I also have had some great finds for tomorrows post.

Vintage Dreaming

These babies came up on today's Etsy finds.

If only they weren't in the USA.

If only I could afford them.

Vintage Cape Find

I was thrilled to find this vintage thick wool cape yesterday at the North Melbourne Market.
It's a Wetherall Sportsclothes of Bond St.

The lovely girl who I bought it from told me it used to be full length, but she cut to make it shorter as it was too bulky for her.

It's still great but I would have loved it full length.
Andy said " All I need now is a deer hat and pipe.
Elementary my dear Watson.

Vintage Finds

Firstly, thank you to everyone who sent well wishes for my little broken girl. She is doing well, but is coming to the realisation that for the next four to six weeks, her playground adventures are limited and we have had a few tears.

I enjoyed a lovely outing to the North Melbourne Market this morning, all on my own. I met up with the lovely Lyndel and purchased a few goodies from her. One was this pot holder made from vintage fabrics. I noticed it when a lady picked it up, and thanked my lucky stars when she put it back down.

For now I'm just enjoying it hanging up, but I think I'll display it on the table.

I also found an English cloak, which I'll take photo's of, maybe Monday.

The Good And The Bad

I was intending on writing about our lovely day out on Saturday on Sunday, but the day was taken up with Doris and each day after I just didn't get time to sit and type.

Today I managed to slow down for which there is a reason. I will explain about that later, but for now I will show you some photo's of our lovely day out at Dromana and surrounds.

A beautiful winters day.

A wander around Heronswood the Diggers Club for gardening ideas.

A short trip to Tyabb, saw us at the Vintage Shed, for a plethora of vintage goodness. It was mind boggling. I actually walked away with nothing, as it was just so over powering in all it's loveliness, I had trouble taking it in. Also by this stage I had two tired, hungry and grumpy kids in need of afternoon tea.

In this tiny little town, hidden away behind an antique shop is a real afternoon tea delight. We met the lovely Robyn of Tilly's at Tyabb. Robyn makes all the goodies herself and is a bright and cheerful hostess. We saw customers with platters of yummy sandwiches and sweet treats enjoying High Tea, we partook of the Devonshire tea and felt much better and recharged for our trip back home. Thanks Robyn, looking forward to dropping in again.

Now for the bad.

Last night at the Childrens Hospital.

Ava came off rather badly after a game of chasy with Lucy, there was a clash while running and Ava ended up with a broken elbow.

So my poor little poppet now has a caste from her wrist to her armpit for the next 4-6 weeks. So today was a quite day.

We certainly are looking forward to our Thailand trip, only seven weeks to go.

A Little Bit Of Sunshine

Now that I am a dog owner, I find that I am up earlier around 6.00 - 6.30, taking Miss Lucy for her morning walk. Now we all know it's cold this winter in Melbourne, however this morning I awoke to it being 2.8 deg. Brrrr!!

I rugged up in my winter woollies and away we went for a brisk stroll through the park. The sun was still sleeping and the moon was full, there was a soft mist in the air and I loved it. As we approached the footy ground I could see that it was covered in a heavy frost and the grass crunched under our feet.

Upon returning home an hour later my family were still snug and warm in bed, they needed waking up if we were going to get an early start for our trip to Diggers in Dromana.

I opened the curtains to this cheerful collection of flowers that my man gave to me the other day.

A nice start to the weekend.

I hope you all enjoy a lovely day.

Knitting Again

The last few months have been so overwhelming with renovating and moving, that it has only been in the last few days that I have started knitting again.

In the evenings I would sit exhausted on the couch, half halfheartedly watching TV, or flicking through a magazine. I would glance over at my knitting bag in the corner, but I just didn't have the energy to concentrate on picking up the pattern again.

It's nice to have my old friend back on my lap keeping me warm, enjoying the movement of my fingers winding wool onto the needles.

Slowly my creative side is returning, I have missed it.

A Cookie Break

Not a lot of work has been done over the school holidays and it's been nice to have a reprieve from renovating.

Last weekend a trip to the Victoria Market saw us ogling the cookie shop. Hmmmm! Now which one will we try, they all look so pretty.

If only we could try them all.

With lovely red draws.

Vintage Finds - Cream

There hasn't been much hunting lately, but I did manage to pop into this old style oppie the other day with 10 minutes to spare before the girls went to dance class and 10 minutes before they closed. In my mad dash search, I spotted this old set of scales without a price. Not sure if I would be able to buy it as I only had $10.00 left in my wallet. When I asked the price I was told it would be $2.00. YAY!!!

Then just before leaving I found these three cream lace cushions at $2.00 each.

So I left happy with my new cream goodies and still had $2.00 left.
