Trees, Birds, Sea, Stingray's & Trails

This long weekend we took our last camping trip in Western Australia before we leave to go back to Victoria. The drive to Pemberton took us 5 hours with stops, the girls were over it ( are we there yet). It is a very pretty part of the country and reminded us of the highlands of Victoria, tall tree's undulating hills, wildlife. Our camping spot was nestled in a valley with a creek and fallen logs for the kids to climb across and explore.
The nights were the coldest we had experienced since living here with it dropping to 5 degree's.
We had lots of adventures wandering along trails, finding ant nests, feeding birds, climbing trees, discovering stingray's. It really was a great weekend and a wonderful end to our stay in WA.

We saw two stingrays come close to shore.
This one was about 1.5 meters across.

Andy starting the climb up the Bicentennial Tree, which is over 60 meters high. There are no safety harnesses or nets, just a bit of chook wire around the outside, you just hang on and climb the rungs that are embedded in the tree. There was no way I was going up.
If you look hard enough you can see him, almost half way.

Andy almost at the top.

A 4 kilometer walk around the lake and the girls were tired.

Waste Not Want Not

Sorting out bits and pieces for the move, I came across some clothes that I no longer wear. Instead of getting rid of them, I decided to make them into clothes for my girls. I felted them so they shrunk to a smaller size them embellished them with scraps of fabric to make them a bit cuter. My girls are happy with their new warm clothes and I'm happy as I don't have to spend money buying them warm things for winter.

Granny Find

Found this awesome queen size crocheted blanket at a market for the outrageous price of $5.00. It certainly is cheery and warm.

I'm a bit low today as I feeling a bit overwhelmed with all that's involved with moving and having two little girls at home on holidays, who just love to make more mess. This will be our third move in less than two years. Andy gave me a cup of tea in bed this morning, how lovely. It's the small kind gestures that make it all worthwhile, I felt completely decadent. So I have to suck it up and get on with it. There is light at the end of the tunnel as we will be having a Thailand holiday while our stuff is in transit to Melbourne. Less than 4 weeks to go.

Lunch In Paris

No folks, I'm not nipping over to gay Paris for lunch, however I am enjoying reading this book. I gave a copy of this to my friend Kim who left to live in Paris just over a week ago, hoping that she might find some useful info on places to visit and eat at. It looked like a fun read, so I bought a copy for myself and in 2 days I am almost half way. It's funny and interesting, with some recipes included, which I will have to try. I do hope that Kim can go to some of the places mentioned and tell me of her experiences. Perhaps she should take notes and try writing about them on a blog, I know I'd be interested.

We're On Our Way Home

In the words of that old song ""Tie A Yellow Ribbon" "I'm coming I've done my time".
yes folks it's official we are going back home to Melbourne. Yippee!

We moved to Perth for hubby's work. We've had some fun, but we never really felt at home here. We so missed our old life back there and can't wait to enjoy our old haunts again. Great cheap food, shops that stay open after 6pm & on weekends, funky cafes, bars, pubs, venues, markets.
We already have a list that will take us a while to get through. On top of that list is catching up with family and friends, visiting our local pub, and our favourite cafes in Fitzroy & North Fitzroy.

The countdown is on only 4 weeks till we leave, 2 weeks holiday while our stuff is in transit and 6 weeks till our arrival on 30th May.

Below are some pictures taken in Castlemaine just before we left for Perth in 2008, the girls will have grown a bit since then.

The day of little girl who's having her 5th birthday.
Wake early

See "How to train your dragon" at the movies - which we loved
Check letter box - jump up & down when a big parcel has arrived
Play some more while mummy makes cake
Tell daddy about her day when he gets home
Eat favourite food for dinner
Eat cake
Listen to new story before bed
Go to sleep with a big smile on face

Painstakingly open gifts so as not to rip paper

A parcel from Nanna, Aunty Janet & Uncle Ivan

More careful unwrapping

Licking the bowl

Party food

I was told how she wanted her cake, but it still had to be a surprise

We all had seconds

On my quest to have my clothes not fit me as tightly, today I arose and confronted the gym. This has not occurred before on a Saturday morning, I usually enjoy a little lay in. I attacked the cross trainer for a 7km slog, again a first for me. Then in the afternoon my family & I hit the bike trails that follow the Swan River for a 10km ride (not all that far, however I do have a child attached at the back on her tagalong). It was a lovely day, we watched the yachts, saw two weddings and fluffy baby swans. So Saturday night will not be what it used to, I'll be snuggled up in bed soon. Aahhhh

A Camel Story by Sarah

A camel at the pyramids.

I am always amazed at how kids think and what they can come up with. This is a story my now 7 year old wrote, she wants to make more copies and sell them. A budding little author.

One day a tired camel was scared, I want some food the camel said, then he went home, I can't believe that it is so hot, I might not have a good sleep tonight.
When he woke up it was a bit cold and it had been raining, that is a change said the camel, I haven't seen rain before and all the other animals were surprised too. This is the best day ever said the camel.

Maybe I can see my friends now but I have forgotten their names are. Now I know Ruby And Ava are my friends names. Hi Ruby, hi Ava, I missed you guys.

A Hunting We Will Go

Happy Easter.
We were woken up early by excited little people, jumping up & down to go egg hunting.
Luckily the bunny came late last night, as the sun had only just started to rise when they awoke.

Preparing our bbq breaky

My hot cross buns that I finally finished at 8.30pm last night.
Yesterday we dyed some eggs pink.

Chai tea, hot & spicy.
