Tea Party

It was a beautiful sunny day, just perfect for an afternoon birthday tea party.

I had covered the old clothes line with vintage sheets and placed the table underneath with
miss-matched vintage china cups, saucers and plates, that I had found for $1.00 each at a garage sale.

I served veggie sticks with dip, fruit platter, butterfly cakes on a vintage tiered stand, home made sausage rolls and flavoured milk poured from a teapot with a pretty cosy.

The girls squealed with delight when they saw what was awaiting them in the yard and raced over to get a seat. They discovered on their plates mini crowns that I had found at a $2.00 shop with more squeals, then devoured the goodies with much unladylike gusto.

I had also arranged on a smaller table a nail painting area, with lots of sparkly bright colours. The girls painted nails and toes, then dressed up and played a made up "I'm a lady" game.

It was a rather simple affair, low budget and easy for me to organise, with just one day of baking and one day to set up but best of all, they all had a lovely time.

Sometimes the simple things are often the best.

Oops! I missed a few spots with the icing.

After the girls had gone home, we lit the candles again with what was left of the cake for another singing of "Happy Birthday", this time just our little family.

There's one tired but happy ten year old.
