What I've Been Up To

With the weather looking bleak for our long weekend away, we made the tough decision to stay home. It's no fun being stuck in a tent when it's wet, cold and windy with two kids who just want to play outside. So we decided to be tourists at home instead, here's what we got up to.

Thursday night was spent at the theatre watching the wonderful performance of Mary Poppins. It was "Practically perfect in every way", we all loved it but the girls were very tired, as we didn't get home till midnight.

Here they are all dressed up to go out to the show

After a big sleep in, we spent the rest of the day at the zoo. We went a few weeks ago to see the new baby elephant, however the line was just so big we left it for another time. This time we were in luck and oohed and aahhhed at how cute he is.

Saturday was spent doing shopping for Andy for his birthday on the Monday. He decided he wanted a new electric guitar and amp. He can't really play, but he's happy dreaming about being a rock god. HA...HA....HA...

Sunday we went bowling then indoor rock climbing, the girls did really well for their first time. I enjoyed it, but found my heart pounding from my fear of heights.

Monday for Andy's birthday we went on a bike ride with the girls on the tag-a-longs into the city along the river path which is about 14 klm one way. We had so much rain on the Saturday that the river was flooded and parts of the bike path were under water, which meant a few detours.

It was so much fun, Sarah was riding with me and when ever we went through a tunnel we hollered and squealed with delight. Once in the city we had a rest while the girls played at the city playground. On the trip home there were a few complaints of sore bottoms and tired legs.

I managed to cook a special dinner for the birthday boy and make a choc orange flourless birthday cake, feeling very tired after the long ride. I slept well that night.

We would get wet if we followed the path down there.

A blurry cut the cake photo by a very tired me.

The girls cut the trees, while I sewed them on for some hand made Christmas cards

A little dress I've been working on using vintage and new fabric

I created these little fellas for young girls to keep their treasures in or use as purses.

Your "staycation" sounds much more fun than camping in the wet. Also, those little treasure-birds are absolutely adorable!!
