Vintage Finds

We went to a small fundraiser yesterday and found some goodies.
One was this tall blue glass vase. It's not vintage but it sure is pretty.

This sweet child's chair in perfect condition and the girls loved these trolls.

Some little birdies for an outdoor windowsill. Ooh! I'd better clean up that dust.

A favourite place to relax with a cuppa and a book or
on warm evenings with a glass of wine and some nibbles watching the world go by.

Dress

A patchwork of colours.

One of my new look dresses.
I am working on fun funky designs for girls to romp and play in.
Fabrics are a mix of vintage, recycled and new.

Cleaning

The last few days I've been trying to spruce up the house a bit
before the scallywags finish school next week.

My solution to a shortage of dusting cloths was to cut up an
old baby sheet I found deep in a box in the shed.

Recycled and washable to use again.

Cake

Yummy and buttery

Mix mix mix with a wooden spoon

We all had a turn in stirring the mixture
but I had to take over and use my bulging biceps

Cushion

What was once a baby pram blanket now has another longer life as a cushion.
I should be able to make 3 more cushions from the blanket.

A piece of a vintage sheet for the backing.
Total cost $3.50 for the insert.

Now to finish the others, each with a different backing.

Reading

One of my childhood favourite's.
We have been reading this most nights before bed and are almost at the end.
Not sure what will be next, perhaps an Enid Blyton.

Sarah's been reading this.

Since Ava started to read a few months ago, she has been unstoppable and devouring lots of the old ladybird books and has now moved on to this collection.

My man's book.
It's nice to see him getting back into a novel again instead of just the newspaper.

Now for me.
As a lover of vintage items this book intrigued me.
Have you ever wondered about the history of your vintage pieces?

A box of items from an old lady who died alone.
The real story behind the objects is lost, but the objects are the story.

Vintage Finds

This morning I awoke early and said to my man I'm not going to any garage sales today.

A few hours later at around 8.30am I announced I'll just do a few, to which he just laughed. I just couldn't help myself and I'm so glad I went, as look at my treasures.

These three items were all in one box covered with grime $10.00 for the box.
After a little spruce up, don't they look lovely and they are all green.
I especially love the meat grinder as I haven't seen one like it before.
It's a Harper 1500 made in England, it is in good working order,
has two attachments and came with the original instructions.

I will make a display of these in my kitchen once I get a shelf.
Hopefully I won't be left waiting too long.

I think these old scissors I found for $10.00
will look interesting displayed on a wall where I sew.

Changes

In just a few months we have gone from a barren veggie garden.

To this colourful lush veggie garden

The fairies certainly wove their magic.

She's all smiles now after the tooth fairy came during the night,
however it wasn't like that before bed.

Last night at a local Christmas carols where her big sister was singing in the school choir, Miss Ava was off skipping and dancing with her friends having a lovely time. Later when she came up to me I noticed that the last thread that her tooth was hanging from had finally broken but poor little Ava had no idea when or where it went.

Her happy face changed in an instant to one of distress, her tooth was gone and how would the tooth fairy know.

On the way home I thought maybe I could pretend that I had found it and substitute one of Sarah's teeth but decided to write a letter to the fairy instead telling her where it was lost. Amazingly the fairy wrote back in teeny tiny writing that she did find it and a gold coin was left in the glass. Thank goodness we had smiles and all is well again in the world. Phew!

Happy this morning in their new dresses mummy had made.

Garage Sale

Today we had a garage sale, which we shared with another family.

Here's why I'm a little tired now.

There was all the sorting out of boxes and hanging up of clothes in the lead up days.

Woke at 5.30am.

I made muffins this morning for the kids to sell to hungry customers, but I was a little distracted and they failed terribly. I had put them into the tins then happened to lick a bit from the bowl and realised I'd forgotten the sugar. I tipped it back into the bowl added the sugar (not a good start). Then thinking they were cooked through I pulled them out of the oven only to watch them sink like pancakes. Most annoying.

We started at 9am, and from then on it was fairly constant till pack up at 1pm, then the clean up, with most things being donated to op shop.

Best things about garage sales.

Meeting neighbours - most lived close by but we've never met before.
Friends dropping in for a scrounge.
Our kids got to have their own stall and keep the proceeds. Great learning experience.
Having a bottle of bubbly at 11.00am. Very wicked! he..he..he..
Great clean out. Now room for more of my finds. Ssshh! Don't tell my man.
Lots of laughter.
Pocket money.
