Gone Fishing

I can't believe it's the last day of school already, I feel like I've just got back into the swing of things again.

This week I've been busy getting all our camp gear organised as we are off tomorrow for a much needed holiday at the beach.

It's been over a year since we've actually done some proper camping, so we are really looking forward to it and Lucy (our dog) is coming as well which could be interesting as she hasn't camped with us before.

So I wish everyone a safe and happy Easter and I'll be back soon with tales of our travels and vintage finds, as I intend to visit all the op shops along the way. Yipee-i-ay!!

A Big Day and Night

Today is Sarah's 9th birthday

Friday was the big celebration with friends which involved a camping sleep over in the back yard.

I had spent the day before cooking up a storm to feed hungry mouths, but as usual I over catered and we were eating leftovers for the rest of the weekend.

I thought I would start with the healthier option first which was a platter of dips, veggie sticks, crackers, brie, & baby tomatoes. Followed by homemade sausage rolls, mini veggie quiches, marinated chicken pieces and party pies. Then later after dancing, games and playing it was the time for the sweet stuff, however they had eaten so much of the other, that there was really only room left in their tummies for the cake. He..he..he..

They then settled down on the floor and couch for a film, then it was brush teeth and out to the tent for bed, which involved a lot of bouncing around in sleeping backs and pillow fights. At 11.00pm Ava wanted to come in and sleep in her bed, she was exhausted, which turned out to be a good idea as the rest of the little monkeys continued to laugh and squeal till midnight, then I had to tell them to settle down and go to sleep.

At 7.00 am they were up and into it again until pick up at 10.00am, I think a good time was had by all, but perhaps a little tired.

Let me just say we spent the rest of the weekend taking it easy.

Vintage Find

Miss Pixie inspecting the cupboard

Ever on the look out, I've done it again.

For almost a year we have been using a makeshift kitchen after we ripped the guts out of our old one and along the way we have added pieces, shelves, cupboards from garage sales etc. We don't want to spend a lot of money as one day in the future it will be upgraded in the "big" reno.

So the story is on Monday I went past a house further down in my street that looked like it was under going a reno, with a skip bin out the front. I spied this kitchen cabinet in the front yard, so I pulled over and cheeky me went to the front door and asked the owner if he was getting rid of it, to which he said I could have it, just take it away. I thanked him very much and said I'd be back.

Well we have been so busy in the evenings this week and we haven't managed to collect it yet. I was getting a bit worried that they may just put it in the skip and it would be gone, but today Andy was home, so we went to see if it was still there which it was. Yay!

It was too heavy to lift onto the roof racks, but we do have a hand trolley, so we walked it along three blocks back home, stopping to say hello to neighbours as they laughed at our resourcefulness.

Now I just have to clean it up.

A Quiet Moment

A quiet moment for me

Have you ever finished a piece of work and then just put it away in a box or draw as you weren't exactly sure what to do with it.

Well I have and this piece of embroidery was finished years ago and yesterday I finally decided what to do with it.

So now it is framed in an inexpensive embroidery ring with some vintage sheet fabric stitched to the rear to finish it off, which is pretty in itself as a wall hanging. Two pictures in one.

I'm still undecided if I will put it in my online shop, or find a place for it at home.
