Mousse Heaven

I decided I'd have a go at making this Nigella Lawson recipe for "Chocolate Mousse". My hubby made a groan of pleasure, not sure if it was the thought of a decadent mousse or the image of Nigella, lets just say he's more than happy to watch her cooking show with me, hmmm.

Marshmellow, butter, chocolate, melted, then you add double cream. This is not for the faint hearted.

Busy Beading

Oh dear, I have been tardy since my last blog.
I find I seem to have less time for my craft making, as the wee ones want to make things more and more.
I love to see the joy that they get out of making something by themselves, (well with a little help from me).

Miss 4 & 6 busy beading, lots of concentration, two necklaces made, lots of fun had.

Baking with the kids

I let Miss 4 & Miss 6 loose with my biscuit book and said we will make what ever they choose. They decided on these tasty little morsels, which to my surprise were actually a healthier choice than others. The thing that they liked was they were decorated with those edible silver balls.
We also had lots of fun.

Citrus Sunflower Biscuits
125 g chopped butter
2 tsp grated lemon rind
2 tsp grated orange rind
3/4 cup caster sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 cups plain flour
1/2 cup coconut
1/4 cup sunflower seed kernals

Beat butter, rinds, sugar & egg in bowl mixer till smooth. Stir in flour, coconut, & kernals.
Drop tbl of mixture onto tray, flatten slightly with fork. top with silver balls.
Bake in moderate oven for 20 min or till brown.

Work in progress

What a mess, it's not until I took these photo's that I realised what chaos I work in. I do try to finish something before I start another, but usually I am so excited about starting a new idea that I can't wait to finish the item I'm working on, I have to start the new idea while it's still fresh in my mind. It all gets finished somehow, some time.

I am happy to say that I have finished two of these three items last night. Now to put them on Etsy, that will take a little bit longer.

Art at the beach

This is some amazing work by my 3 year old, she certainly has an interesting view of the world.
Two guesses for what she called them. She was content to create these for most of the 2 hours we spent at the beach.

After we photographed them lots of fun was had then throwing them.

International compost week

I am currently trying to get my little patch of earth ready for a better crop for the up and coming spring. Six months ago we were living in a small terraced house in Melbourne where we would grow tomatoes and herbs out of pots. We had a Bokashi bucket for our recycling of kitchen waste, which was great for small composting, due to hubby's work we are now living in Perth and the little ones are loving the space and yes we now have a bigger patch and a bigger compost bin. When we first arrived I planted furiously only to find that the soil was so poor that my poor plants were very sad looking, the kids were still delighted though, to pick thumb sized tomatoes. So now hopefully after much composting we are about to add it to the soil along with some chook poo to get better results. As it is also quite dry here we will also be adding a lot of mulch, using cardboard and newspaper spread out over the earth then topped with peastraw.
