Its been quite a while since I posted here.
Since February I was a full time student with RMIT studying Textile Design & Development.
This was a huge learning curve for me and in the first two weeks, I thought I would never be able to cope with the amount of work that was required. I soon discovered that to achieve my goals, I had to be more efficient and unfortunately, blogging was Alisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03547978013729923113noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4096981939931106756.post-60484734950106185482015-01-19T09:08:00.000+11:002015-01-19T09:08:28.678+11:00From A Distance

Just an hour north of the city. A pity the day wasn't clear but still an interesting
view of the city from afar.

Last year some of you may know that I completed a Visual Arts course which helped me explore many forms of producing art and to visualise my world differently. I discovered an interest in texture and pattern and that I wanted to explore this interest further.

My year of studying Visual Art's has come to an end.
It has been a year of fun, exploration and self discovery.
I have learnt so much along the way, delving into different techniques, methods and materials.
To explore and express myself within a group of like minded individuals through art has been a wonderful experience.
One of the projects was to make an art doll using any Alisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03547978013729923113noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4096981939931106756.post-22921243472065427492014-10-15T14:26:00.001+11:002014-10-15T14:26:53.400+11:00Deep Time - An Art Project
Last Term all the students of the school where my girls attend,
participated in the most amazing art project.
Some of the children's parents are well known artists and together with the school and Arts Victoria, they managed to arrange the Deep Time Project.
It was based around the Merri Creek and the children went on many explorations of the area with artists, teachersAlisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03547978013729923113noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4096981939931106756.post-28473458096299706062014-10-03T14:13:00.001+10:002014-10-03T14:13:58.141+10:00Upcycle - From Sports Coat to Tank Top
Some men's blazer's are made from beautiful wool fabric and can be found aplenty
at secondhand stores quite cheap.
I wanted to upcycle it into something that I could wear.
I cut it up so that I could retain the pocket and placed it across the chest.
I knitted panels, then stitched bits of coloured wool into them.
I then placed these over the front and back.

I seem to have so many projects on the go at once, with some just needing to be sewn up or just adding buttons.

The cooler weather is certainly here now.
To keep my feathered girls happy on those brisk mornings,
I like to serve them up a hearty bowl of warm porridge.
With a splash of milk and a dollop of natural yoghurt they can't get it down quick enough.
I like my porridge with slices of banana, a few sultana's and a drizzle of honey. Mmm.

The first part of the year was busy one for us and we were in need of a break.
We jumped at the chance of a couple of weeks away camping,
where we were able to enjoy the last remnants of warm weather.
This beach near Lakes Entrance was a bit to dangerous for swimming or surfing,
but we enjoyed collecting some lovely ocean smoothed pebbles.

The reason is I am now a part time art student. I am loving it, but I find that the days when I'm not at school have become busy with catching up on the delights of running a house for a busy and messy family. I truly do not know how people who work full time and have families can do it all. I have had only four days of school so far, butAlisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03547978013729923113noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4096981939931106756.post-2194006806763125392014-02-16T10:52:00.000+11:002014-02-16T10:52:33.932+11:00Enjoying

I would like to think that we are now on the other side of the intense heat that we have had this summer.
Plants have shrivelled and died and what was once lush green grass, is now dried brown and dirt.
Beauty can still be found.

Here comes the sun.
We enjoyed the lovely mild day yesterday with a picnic in the park by the river, before the temperature soars to forty degree's for the next five days with the nights in the mid twenties. Ugh!
It's not going to be easy keeping the kids happy in that sort of heat.
I will be looking at quiet indoor craft projects and games.

After I wrote yesterday's post, I viewed some of my other favourite blogs and was excited to see this post by Attic 24 about artisan bread.
That very afternoon I had a crack at this super easy bread.
The next morning, it had done it's thing, I heated up the oven and bunged it in.
The girls awoke to just baked bread which we then slathered on butter, jam, vegemite and tomatoes (not all Alisonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03547978013729923113noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4096981939931106756.post-35131939818578118322014-01-09T13:23:00.002+11:002014-01-09T13:25:35.731+11:00Home Goodies
We picked our first ever home grown zucchini yesterday and it was a whopper.
I was going to pick it three days earlier but forgot and when I went out last night to get it for dinner I was shocked to see it had expanded to even larger proportions.

I bought this dress a while ago now for around $7.00.
I loved the fabric but had only worn it once as I didn't really like how it looked on.
It was the elastic.
I felt strangled around the waist and wrists.
I thought about cutting it up and making it into a skirt but then I came up with a simple solution.

We drove around the bay today to one of the outer beach suburbs to see some sand sculptures.
These are made from solid sand, not the beach kind but more compact sand that bricklayers would use.
We were amazed at the detail and the scale of these works of art.
I'm not going to tell you what each one is but let you discover them for yourselves.
